Abstract:
Connected devices have become a powerful catalyst in many fields today and can contribute substantially to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This talk we overview some of the work conducted at the IOTA Laboratory at ENSPY, focusing on SDG 2 (Zero Hunger through smart agriculture) and SDG 3 (Health for All). To this end, in collaboration with the Computer Science Laboratory at the University of Grenoble Alpes, we have deployed a sensor network. This network, which is based on LoRa technology and the Meshtastic protocol, collects meteorological data useful for malaria surveillance, such as temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, ambient light, and precipitation intensity. The data collected in this way is processed using AI algorithms for the spatiotemporal prediction of malaria dynamics. The expansion of this initial network will support other projects conducted at the laboratory, including the monitoring of pregnant women in rural areas, the impact of pollution on lung health, and precision agriculture.
