Towards fast-booting & MCU-driven operation for hybrid multi-core chips with dual Cortex-A and -M

Biography:

Gilles Doffe is an embedded software engineer since 2006, in Rennes, France. With Savoir-Faire Linux, Gilles is focused on code and knowledge sharing through exciting technical projects. Free software such as RIOT OS creates useful social and technical connections. Gilles promotes and develops it through robotics and embedded contributions.

Abstract:

A novel class of devices IoT devices and use cases leverage asymmetric dual core chips, such as STM32MP1 series, NXP i.MX 8 series, which combine both a Arm Cortex-M microcontroller and a Cortex-A microprocessor.
This talk will focus on characteristics and use cases of the STM32MP1, and identify the weaknesses of current software support approaches.
This talk will also provide a status report on current RIOT support, as well as upcoming challenges & perspectives in this context.
